On November 15, 2007, an awards ceremony was held at the RI State House in honor of America Recycles Day. Seven of the top schools from around the state were given awards for their outstanding recycling efforts.
Ashton Elementary School - Cumberland
Providence, RI (November 15, 2007) – Students from Ashton Elementary School (seated on the steps) were awarded a certificate of achievement in recycling at the RI State House on Thursday, November 15, 2007. The award, given out at the RI Schools Recycling Club awards ceremony, recognized Ashton Elementary School as a leader in the RI Schools Recycling challenge. Accepting the award on behalf of Ashton Elementary School was Pauleen Slater, school nurse and student council advisor and students Emily Gnys, Cassidy Nunes, and Justine Ballou. Presenting the award was former RI Attorney General, Arlene Violet.

BF Norton Elementary School - Cumberland
